Mt Rainier and Seattle

We left Yakima via White Pass, aiming to visit the Paradise interpretive center. Unfortunately it proved closed, as did the center at Sunrise, though the road did provide amazing views of the mountain. Not to be denied a National Park experience, we hiked up to Crystal Lakes: just 5 kilometers but with 750 meters of climbing. At the top, a storm rolled in and we ran down through hail and rain to the shelter of the car.

Later we visited cousin Diana in Seattle, where we spent three nights, with two days exploring the city: first south of Queen Anne: the Center, downtown, Pike Place, the waterfront, Pioneer Square, the International District and Capitol Hill (whoo, that was hard on the legs after our mountain adventure the day before). Then on Saturday we hit the north side of town with Ballard and Fremont the main goals, visiting the locks and Davidson Bicycles along the way.
